Relax In A Hurry

Do you have one of those jobs, or one of those lives, where it seems you can't fine even a minute for yourself?   Between jobs, homes, kids, commitments, and friends, it seems like there is a never ending "to do" list and a constant set of demands on our time and energy.

It is easy to get caught up in today's hectic lifestyle.

But it is important to focus.  You can use these tips to focus and relax in just a few minutes, and you can do it anywhere - at your desk, in the car, or at the grocery store.  And it takes just a few minutes whenever you have a break.

Focus On the Moment

Take a minute to focus just on what you are feeling and thinking about right now to get a renewed perspective on your situation.  Forget about the failures, disappointments, and regrets from the past.  They are in your past and there may be little you can do about them now.  Calm down and focus on the "here" and "now".  You may want to say a silent prayer and think about your breathing.

Controlled Breathing

Take a minute to do an exercise where you focus on your breathing.  This can help you focus your mind and calm your emotions.  First, inhale slowly and fully while counting from 1 to 4.  Then, hold that breath for a count of 4.  Finally, exhale the full breath while counting from 4 to 1.  This simple exercise can help you feel more calm, controlled, and balanced.

Count Your Blessings

Think about something positive that is going well for you.  It may be something simple - like your spouse helped to clean up the kitchen, or you were able to make an important phone call without an extended game of 'phone tag'.  The reality is that most of us really are blessed far more than we realize.  We have a home, food, and friends - far more than so many others have.  Focus on your blessings and be thankful.

With our stressful lives, it is important to take a little time to relax.   Throughout the day you can find – or make - a few moments here and there to use simple techniques like Focus On the Moment, Controlled Breathing, and Count Your Blessings to relax in a hurry!
